I was editing some of the Left Field Project book last night and came across Dave The Chimp’s Interview. Here is a nugget:
I left school at 16 to study graphic design, as I figured it would train me to earn money, while still doing something I was interested in (drawing and coming up with ideas) At 18 I left home to continue my studies, but quickly lost interest in graphics as the Apple mac was the new god, and in my college it just seemed to dampen creativity and turn out clones. I started skipping design lectures to go to life drawing classes, and then switched to an illustration course (mainly because I’d fallen in love with a girl on the course). Illustration was perfect, as I could use my cartooning skills to tell a story, and my graphic skills to answer a brief, and I spent the next six years working as a freelance illustrator for magazines, publishers, Burton snowboards, small record companies, MTV, and many other clients….
I also came across Dave’s “how to quit” smoking: (2 easy steps)
Step 1.
Realize that cigarettes are a form of slavery, and make the decision not to suck corporate tobacco company cock any more. Those companies give thousands, if not millions, of dollars in support to George W Bush’s regime – why do you think, when the government banned you from taking nail files and knitting needles on airplanes after 9/11, they didn’t ban you from taking matches and cigarette lighters, despite a terrorist trying to set fire to explosives in his shoe? Tobacco company pressure, that’s why. Those bastards WANT you to light up as soon as you get off a plane. If you have enough money you can even buy the rights to put thousands of lives at risk. God Bless America!
Step 2.
stop putting cigarettes in your mouth and lighting them.
Congratulations! You’ve just freed yourself from slavery!! Now enjoy noticing that you have more energy, get more done, that smokers breath stinks like a dead dogs, and that people compliment you on how happy and healthy you look. Rejoice!! It’s amazing to be free!!
